  ROYSE CITY — The Royse City Lady Bulldogs outlasted Greenville in five sets on Tuesday to claim their first district volleyball victory and hand the Lady Lions their first district loss.

  Royse City won 25-22, 20-25, 30-28, 18-25, 15-12 to go 22-13 overall and 1-3 in district, while Greenville fell to 21-13 and 3-1.

  “We came out with energy and put a complete match together,” said Royse City coach Tori Orms. “We will take it match by match. Our defense played stellar tonight. Our offense fed off of our defense.”

  “We did not play to our full potential tonight,” said Greenville coach Jenna Sickels. “Lindale on Friday will be another tough game. We are still in good shape in the district.”

  Greenville will travel to Lindale on Friday for a 4:30 p.m. match with the Lady Eagles. Royse City will host Mount Pleasant at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

  Royse City jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the first set as Sydney Schuyler, Sophia Johnson, Bailey Newsom, Reagan Wilcox and Kendall Butler scored big points.

  Greenville started to chip away. Jayde Sickels, Kelsi McNair, Sydney Walker, and Carley Cathey got Greenville within 22-20 before the Lady Bulldogs put the set away.

  Brooke Hutchings helped Greenville break out to a 14-3 lead in the second set as she served for eight straight Greenville points before Jade Green ended the run with a kill for the Lady Bulldogs.

  Cathey, MaCayla Bush, Walker and McNair had big points as the Lady Lions took the second set.

  The third set was back and forth with Royse City pulling it out 30-28.

  Maci Williams, McNair, Hutchings, Walker and Sickels helped Greenville pull out the fourth set.

  After grabbing a 5-1 advantage in the fifth and deciding set, Royse City, behind Johnson and Newsom, kicked its offense into high gear.

  Johnson led the Lady Bulldogs with 16 kills, while Dylann Price led in digs with 31. Reagan Wilcox set for a team-high 25 assists, followed by Maddie Stanley with 19. Morgan Kobe led the Lady Bulldogs in blocks with three.  

  Royse City claimed the junior varsity match, 25-15, 25-19, and the freshman contest, 25-7, 25-10.

Commerce goes

3-0 in district

  COMMERCE — The Commerce Lady Tigers stayed undefeated in District 13-3A volleyball with a 25-17, 25-12, 25-17 win over Paris Chisum on Tuesday.

  Landry Davidson set for a team-high 20 assists for Commerce to go with seven kills and 15 digs.

  Savannah Shaw managed seven kills and seven digs.

  Allie Whittkopf served for a team-high 11 points to go with six kills.

  Emma Dobbs added nine assists and 10 points for Commerce.

  Mya Wilson led with 12 kills and 23 digs.

  Cailynn Beane finished with seven digs and Meme Wilson recorded four digs as Commerce improved to 23-9 for the season.

  Commerce also won the freshman contest, 25-13, 25-15, and the junior varsity match, 25-19, 25-12.

  Commerce plays again on Friday at Mount Vernon, starting at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity match.

Caddo Mills

beats Quinlan

  QUINLAN — The Caddo Mills Lady Foxes squared their District 13-4A volleyball record at 2-2 with a 25-18, 25-19, 15-19 win over Quinlan Ford on Tuesday.

  Ford remained winless in district play at 0-4.

  Victoria Geisert led Ford with seven kills and two digs.

  Presley Kirkland produced four blocks, three kills and five digs for Ford, while Kaylyn Rainer put away five kills.

  Jaycie Whitehead set for seven assists and recorded four digs.

  Bailee Radney wound up with three blocks.

  Caddo Mills also won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 25-9, and the freshman contest, 25-12, 25-20.

  Ford plays again on Friday at Crandall.

  Caddo Mills squared its season record at 17-17.
