Too many turnovers.
That was the story of the Greenville Lions’ 75-61 non-district loss to Terrell on Tuesday night in the Lions Den.
Terrell took advantage of Lion turnovers in the first half to build leads of 22-13 after one quarter and 45-22 at the half. Though the Lions outscored the Tigers 39-30 in the second half they were too far behind to catch Terrell, which is now 10-8 for the season. Greenville dropped to 14-5.
“We just dug ourselves a hole,” said Lions coach Gant Caraway.
Caraway said when things are going right for the Lions they play well.
“When things are bad for us, everything’s bad,” he said. “But it’s a work in progress.”
The Lions have two more non-district games left on their schedule before opening defense of their District 12-4A title on Jan. 13 in Greenville against Texas High of Texarkana.
Senior Chad Robinson, who averaged 20 points in three games in the West Mesquite tournament last weekend, again led the Lions with a game-high 26 points.
But he was the Lions’ only scorer in double digits as James Savage finished with eight points and D.C. Gray added seven.
Brandon Webb led the taller Tigers with 19 points. Antwian Thomas tossed in 17 and Herman Newsome added 14.
Greenville is back at home on Friday night against West Mesquite and then plays at Mesquite Poteet on Tuesday night before opening district play.
