Sportswriters around the state are keeping their eyes on the Royse City Bulldogs and the Farmersville Fightin' Farmers.

Both football teams, which went 11-2 last season, cracked the top 15 state rankings in their respective divisions in the 2007 Coaching School Media Poll.

Royse City garnered 146 points to rank fifth in Class 3A behind Celina (214), Giddings (210), Liberty-Eylau (196) and Liberty Hill (188).

Royse City returns seven starters on offense and eight on defense off last year's team that advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class 3A Division I playoffs before falling 27-21 to eventual state champion Liberty-Eylau.

The Bulldogs also earned No. 4 ranking in "Dave Campbell's 2007 Texas Football Magazine." Giddings was first in that ranking, followed by Liberty-Eylau and then Snyder.

Farmersville, which was selected ninth in Dave Campbell's rankings for Class 2A, moved up to eighth in the Coaching School Media's 2A poll. Mart and Tatum, the Division II and Division I Class 2A state champions last season, ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the Coaching School Media poll. Cisco was third, followed by Refugio, Newton, Elysian Fields and Coleman.

Farmersville returns six offensive starters and seven defensive regulars from an 11-2 team that reached the Division I quarterfinals last season before falling 29-15 to Boyd.

Alto, the team that knocked Wolfe City out of the 2006 playoffs, claimed the top spot in Class A.

Defending state champion Southlake Carroll took No. 1 in Class 5A though the Dragons' head coach Todd Dodge is now at the University of North Texas.

Perennial power LaMarque is ranked first in 4A and Celina is rated first in 3A.
