The 2-4 Greenville Lady Lions will try to get back on the winning track tonight as they travel to Royse City to face the Lady Bulldogs in a non-district game.

The varsity contest starts around 6:30 p.m., following the 5 p.m. junior varsity contest.

Greenville opened the season last week with a 2-0 loss to Athens on a very chilly Tuesday night and then went 2-3 in the Longview tournament during the weekend.

Greenville pitcher Holly Patterson struck out eight batters while taking the Athens loss. Hayley Ellis led the Lady Lion hitters, going 2-for-2. Patterson and Ali Trower also had hits.

The Lady Lions opened the Longview tournament with a 5-2 loss to Longview Pine Tree. Patterson struck out 10 in that game. Kayla Martinez led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a run. Eric Garcia, Marny Williams and Patterson also had hits.

Greenville claimed its first win of the season by a 6-4 margin over Pittsburg in the Lady Lions’ second game of the Longview tournament. Patterson struck out 11 batters and went 3-for-3 with a homer and four runs batted in. Twoer was 2-for-2 with two runs and Garcia was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Martinez, Sam Sepeda and Michelle Blankeship also had hits.

Greenville won again in the tourney, 4-2 over Quitman. Patterson struck out seven and also slugged a solo home run. Trower drove in two runs with three hits and scored a run. Garcia, Nicki Rogers and Brandy Julian also had hits.

Captain Shreve of Louisiana handed the Lady Lions a 7-1 loss in the tournament. Patterson struck out five and had two hits and a run. Melissa Byrd had two hits. Martinez and Garcia also had hits.

Grand Saline blanked the Lady Lions 10-0 in the tournament after Patterson was injured and unable to pitch. Trower, who struck out two, took the loss. Patterson and Sepeda had hits.

The Lady Lions outscored Royse City 4-2 in a preseason scrimmage.

Royse City went 22-5 last season, led by pitcher Erin Fudge, who has signed a letter of intent with Odessa College.
