After returning from the holiday break, both Texas A&M University-Commerce basketball teams are leading their divisions in the crowded Lone Star Conference races.

The 13-0 Lion women, who are off to their best start in program history, lead the third division of the LSC women’s race with a 7-0 conference record and 3-0 division mark. They’re one of only two women’s teams with perfect LSC records.

Lubbock Christian, the defending NCAA Division II national champion, is also 7-0 in LSC women’s play. Lubbock Christian is ranked No. 2 behind Drury (Mo.) in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Division II national rankings.

The Lions are ranked fifth, their highest ranking in program history. Lubbock Christian and A&M-Commerce are the only two LSC women’s teams ranked in the top 25.

The 9-4 A&M-Commerce men lead the LSC’s third division with a 5-2 conference record and a 3-0 mark in the division.

There are no undefeated teams left in men’s LSC play. Dallas Baptist and St. Edward’s are both at 6-1, with losses to Texas A&M-Commerce. West Texas A&M is 5-1.

Both A&M-Commerce teams will be back in action on Thursday at Texas A&M International in Laredo with the women’s game starting first at 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game to follow at about 7:30.
