Greenville’s Lions had their game moved back a day and the first-round opponent changed at the Wills Point basketball tournament.

Icy road conditions caused tournament officials to call off all of Thursday’s games at the tournament, shortening it to a two-day tournament.

The Lions, who were scheduled to play Royse City at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, will instead open the tournament against Community at 11:30 a.m. today and then will play again at 4:45 p.m., according to Greenville coach Gant Caraway.

Greenville is 8-1 for the season after winning the Quinlan Hoops Magic tournament on Saturday and then whipping Bonham 99-47 on Monday.

Greenville spread the scoring around versus Bonham as 12 Lions scored, led by James Savage with 18 points, Chad Robinson with 15, Kaleb Henderson with 13, Byron Bell with 12 and Shane Gray with 10.

Community, a member of District 9-3A, is 2-3 for the season including victories of 66-32 over Rockwall Christian and 79-50 over Bells and losses of 51-45 to Bland, 59-44 to Caddo Mills and 70-59 to Honey Grove.

B.J. Dale, a 6-1 freshman, leads the Braves at 16.0 points per game. Garet Ammerman, a 5-11 senior, is averaging 10.8 points and 5.2 rebounds and Ross Hutchinson, a 6-4 sophomore, is averaging 8.4 points and 10.8 rebounds.

The Wills Point tournament includes three state-ranked teams including Martins Mill, No. 2 in Class A; Clarksville, No. 3 in 2A; and host Wills Point, which is No. 16 in 3A.

Greenville reached the Wills Point finals last year before falling 66-60 to Bullard in the championship game. Bullard was ranked No. 6 in 3A at that time.
