Greenville’s Lady Lions can’t seem to get the bats going in District 12-4A softball.

The Lady Lions, who didn’t reach base during a 9-0 loss last week to Texas High and its pitcher Kelsey Harrington, reached first only three times against North Lamar hurler Kaci Crawford in a 4-0 loss to the Pantherettes on Tuesday evening at Monty Stratton Field.

“We can’t get runners in scoring position,” said Lady Lions coach Frank Colvert. “We haven’t had a runner get to second base in district. We’ve played two district games and 14 innings and we’ve got two hits.”

Crawford yielded only two hits and one walk while striking out 12.

“We ran into a pitcher with a good rise ball and we weren’t able to catch up with it,” said Colvert.

Ali Trower reached in the first inning on a bloop single but was thrown out at second on a botched hit-and-run call.

Sarah Williams reached on a walk in the fifth but courtesy runner Crystal Lisk got caught off first base on a fly ball back to the North Lamar pitcher, who pegged to first for the double play.

Erica Garcia singled with two outs in the sixth but was left stranded.

Chelsea Steelman of North Lamar produced the game’s biggest hits. She slugged a two-run homer over the center field fence in the sixth inning and also singled and scored in the fourth, helped along by a passed ball and a mental mistake that allowed Steelman to reach third. Allison Felty drove in Steelman with a ground-out.

North Lamar also produced a run in the seventh off a walk to Crawford, followed an out later by back-to-back singles from Aimee Rea and Erin McGregor.

Greenville pitcher Holly Patterson allowed four hits and three walks while fanning nine.

The Lady Lions dropped to 4-9-1 for the season and 0-2 in district play, while North Lamar improved to 16-7 and 1-1.

The game was moved from North Lamar to Greenville because of wet conditions.
