Greenville’s 1-3 Lions will try to cut down on the errors as they travel to Commerce to face the Tigers in a 4:30 p.m. non-district game today.

Greenville dropped three games in the Tyler Lee tournament last week, falling 4-1 to host Tyler Lee, 4-3 in eight innings to Kilgore and 7-6 to St. Michael’s from Monroe, La.

“The pitching was as good as I expected it to be,” said new Lions coach Leo McDaniel, Jr. “We just made some mental and physical errors. We weren’t thinking.”

McDaniel said the Lions have been facing some good pitching so far this season.

Trey Turner and Travis Potter led the Lions at the plate in the Tyler Lee tournament, according to the GHS coach.

Right-hander Chase Martin will start on the mound today for the Lions.

Celeste, which won the Sam Rayburn wood bat tournament last week, opens district play at 4 p.m. today at arch rival Miller Grove. The Blue Devils beat Sam Rayburn 3-1, Trenton 2-0, Detroit 6-2 and Honey Grove 4-2 to finish first.

Other scheduled games around the area include Ector at Leonard, Community at Kaufman, Lone Oak at Farmersville, Cumby at Wolfe City and Greenville Christian School at Caddo Mills.
