  The Greenville Lady Lions and Commerce Lady Tigers will try to continue their climbs up the volleyball playoff ladder with area matches tonight.

  The 28-14 Lady Lions, who swept Longview Pine Tree in straight sets in a 5A bi-district playoff, will take on Midlothian at 7 p.m. Thursday in an area match at Forney High School.

  The 29-11 Lady Tigers, who swept Hooks in three sets in a Class 3A bi-district match, will face Gladewater Sabine in an area playoff match at 6 p.m. Thursday in Wills Point.

  Greenville swept Pine Tree, 25-15, 25-14, 25-14, cheered on by a large and boisterous red-clad Greenville crowd.

  “We played well tonight,” said Lady Lions coach Jayde Sickels. “We knew we had to come in here and play hard. Now we have to prepare for the next one.”

  Midlothian, which is 24-17 for the season, won its playoff 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 over Mesquite Poteet.

  The Lady Panthers finished second to traditional power Red Oak in District 14-5A with a 9-3 record. Midlothian’s only other district loss was in five sets to Joshua.

  Aryn Walton, a 5-11 junior, 6-0 junior Madison Hall and 5-7 freshman Kenna Buchanan have been Midlothian’s top hitters. Madeline Smith and Walton have led the Lady Panthers in assists and freshman Jenna McMichael leads them in digs.

 Jayde Sickels, Kelsi McNair, Brooke Hutchings and Alyssa Mitchell have been the Lady Lions’ top hitters, while Sydney Walker and Carley Cathey have led them in assists and Sickels, McNair, Walker, Cathey and Maci Williams lead them in digs.

 Commerce swept Hooks 25-17, 25-9, 25-18 as Mya Wilson put away 11 kills, Landry Davidson set for 20 assists and Allie Wittkopf produced a team-high 17 digs. Davidson also managed 13 digs.

  Sabine, which is ranked No. 6 in 3A, is 39-6 for the season after whipping Waskom 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 in its bi-district playoff match.

  Mikinzi Cantrell, a 5-10 senior, led Sabine against Waskom with 15 kills, while 5-9 sophomore Aubree McCann tallied nine kills and 5-8 junior Ryanne Stuart finished with six.

  Junior Sierrah Richter served for 11 aces and McCann served for nine. Richter led Sabine’s defense with eight digs.

 Royse City lost its 5A bi-district match to Whitehouse, 19-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 15-11 to finish at 26-16. The Lady Bulldogs made the playoffs as the third-place team in 15-5A behind Greenville and Lindale.

 Cumby won its Class 2A bi-district playoff match over James Bowie, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18, to advance to the area round against No. 7 ranked Beckville. Beckville won its playoff, 25-5, 25-8, 25-4, over Overton. Cumby will play 33-13 Beckville at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lindale.

 Boles, now 33-12, claimed its Class 2A bi-district playoff over Maud in three sets and will face Big Sandy in the area round. Big Sandy, 25-9 for the season, won in three sets over Gary. Their area match is set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Grand Saline.
