The Greenville Lady Lions will try to strengthen their hold on third place as round two of the 54-hole District 12-4A girls golf tournament begins at 9 a.m. today at Wright Park Municipal in Greenville.

“We’re right in the middle of it,” said Lady Lions coach Lissa Cobb. “This is number two of three.”

North Lamar leads the tournament at 402, following round one last week at the Paris Golf and Country Club. Defending champion Sulphur Springs ranks second at 411 and the Lady Lions are third with a 501.

Paris ranks fourth at 519 and Sulphur Springs No. 2 is in fifth place with a 520 score.

“We’d like to maintain third place,” said Cobb.

Defending champion Allison Felty of North Lamar leads the medalists with a 94. Katy Webster of Mount Pleasant ranks second at 96 and Whitney McDaniel from Sulphur Springs is third with a 98.

Brittnay White led the Lady Lions in the first round of district with a 115. Lauren Francis shot a 118. Trisha Cobb carded a 131 and Brittany Morris fired a 137.

“I’m hoping Brittnay will make a good showing,” said GHS coach Lissa Cobb. “She’s been hitting the ball well.”

The final round of the girls 12-4A tournament is set for April Monday at the Army Depot Course in New Boston.

Round two of the 12-4A boys tournament is set for Thursday at Webb Hill Country Club in Wolfe City.
