Graduating Greenville High School seniors Payton Franklin and Ian Miller have earned all-state and all-region honors in soccer.

  Franklin, who has signed with Dallas Baptist to play soccer, made the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State first team after graduating near the top of his class.

  Franklin also made the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches’ all-Region II-5A second team as a midfielder.

  Miller earned first-team all-region honors as a forward. Miller led the Lions for the season with 30 goals to go with eight assists.

  Franklin led the Lions in assists with 17 to go with four goals.

  Miller was also named the most valuable player on offense on the All-District 15-5A team. Miller also racked up 31 goals and 15 assists as a junior and 20 goals and five assists as a sophomore. Miller and Jake Jackson, who scored 84 goals from 1998-2001, are the only two Lions with more than 80 goals for their career.

  Franklin claimed the defensive midfielder of the year award in 15-5A. He also recorded one goal and five assists as a junior and six goals and four assists as a sophomore.

  The 15-8 Lions made the playoffs for the second straight season after finishing second to Mount Pleasant in the District 15-5A standings with an 8-2 record.

  Two Mount Pleasant players claimed all-state honors. Senior Tony Freer earned second-team all-state honors as a forward. Alex Guzman earned second-team all-state honors as a defender. Goalkeeper Matt Sunderland also made the honorable mention all-state list for the Tigers, who went 22-5-1 for the season, reaching the region finals in the playoffs.

  Jason Mayfield of Mount Pleasant earned another TASCO all-region honor as a head coach.

  Samuel Cox of Lindale was the only other 15-5A boys player to claim all-region honors, making the second team as a forward.

  Royse City’s girls 22-1-3 district champs earned one TASCO all-state honor and three all-region awards. The Lady Bulldogs advanced to the region quarterfinals.

  Royse City freshman goalkeeper Lillian Weber claimed second-team all-state honors.

  Royse City senior Rachel Roebuck made the first team as a defender.

  Lady Bulldog Jenna Patterson, who is a senior, made the all-region first team as a forward and her freshman teammate Trinity Hernandez made the all-region second team at forward.
