DENTON — Caddo Mills earned its first trip to the regional basketball tournament since 1990 with a 72-53 regional quarterfinal victory over the Brock Eagles on Tuesday night.

The 27-6 Foxes will advance to the Region II-2A tournament in Stephenville to face No. 1 state-ranked Rivercrest on Friday night in the region semifinals.

Caddo Mills coach Jeff Smith called it a “great win.”

“A great program win for our kids. Gives us a lot of confidence. The kids are feeling good about themselves and are ready to take on the next opponent,” said Smith.

Brock won a Class 2A state title in 2003 and a Class A championship in 2002 along with the Texas Cup.

The Eagles also had a decided height advantage.

But not of that mattered to the Foxes, who pulled away from the Eagles in the second half with advantages of 19-9 and 26-15 over the final two periods.

Brock led 29-27 at the half but Caddo Mills started the second half with an 11-0 run led by Desmond Brigham. Brigham scored 23 of his game-high 34 points in the second half.

“Des was on fire in the second half,” said Smith. “He had a monster dunk in the fourth quarter. Hammered it.”

Eric Jeffery and Derrick Jeffery also added 12 points for the Foxes and Ryan Cooper chipped in 10 points.

Ty Beachump led the Eagles with 19 points and Stafford Rose added 10 as Brock finished with a 24-10 record. --Joel Richardson contributed to this report.
