Too many errors.
That was the story of Greenville Christian School’s 11-5 loss to Amarillo San Jacinto in the regional round of the TAPPS Class 2A baseball playoffs on Monday.
GCS committed 11 errors that allowed San Jacinto to score six unearned runs.
“We actually hit the ball around a little bit and had some opportunities but errors ate us up,” said GCS coach Larry Uland.
San Jacinto had only a 10-9 advantage in hits but made eight less errors.
Uland said the Eagles never quit.
“We were still battling back there at the last,” he said. “So I was proud of them for that.”
David Freisner went 3-for-4 to lead GCS at the plate. Kyle Rook pounded two hits for the Eagles, who also collected one hit each from Joe Quick, Joe Killgore, Brock Dumdei and Kurt Jones.
Monty Matthews, Kyle Hersom and Preston Sauer all rang up three hits to lead the Patriots, who’ll advance to the state semifinals.
GCS finishes the season with an 11-10 record.
“This is a great bunch of kids,” said Uland. “We’ll have most of them back.”
