QUINLAN — Caddo Mills made Kodi Crane’s debut as head coach a success with a 42-20 victory over Quinlan Ford in the 2019 football opener on Friday night.
Quinlan Ford could not overcome three first-half fumbles. The Panthers gained only 62 yards on the ground in the first half and 63 yards via the airways while Caddo Mills rolled up 390 yards to roll up a 42-6 halftime lead.
The Foxes scored on their first two opening drives on runs by quarterback Tyler Townley of 28 yards and 16 yards. They were headed towards another score before a great one-handed interception by Ford defensive back Kobe Jennings inside his own 15-yard line.
The Foxes forced the Panthers to punt and then drove back inside the 10 before Fox kicker Jonah Rupe hit a 24-yard field goal to push the score to 18-0.
Rupe added a 33-yard field goal before halftime and was good on his four point after attempts.
Townley went 9-of-15 passing on the night for 242 yards with two touchdowns to add to his 63 yards rushing on 15 carries and two TDs.
Caddo Mills speedy receiver Cayden Davis led all receivers with 116 yards and TDs on catches of 48 yards and 68 yards.
Caddo Mills tailback Savion Neal paced the Fox ground attack with 19 carries for 83 tough yards. Ryan Hammons added 47 yards rushing on five carries with a 34-yard touchdown run.
The Panthers came out in the second half with a strong running attack that added two scores. Running back Jose Acosta, who had no first half carries, ran four times for 50 yards and a touchdown in the second half.
Quarterback Eli Chambers rushed for 64 yards on 13 carries and went 6-of-20 passing for 146 yards with one TD for the Panthers.
Quinlan Ford ended with 198 yards rushing on carries by 10 different runners.
Ford entertains Dallas Molina next week and Caddo Mills travels to Edgewood.
