Open letter to Sens. Cornyn and Cruz:
Let me be completely up front: I did not vote for either of you, but once you took office I expected you to represent all Texans, not just those who voted for you or donated to your campaigns.
I expected you to choose what’s good for Texans and what’s good for America above what is good for the Republican Party, especially when confronted with unethical behavior on the part of the president.
It is the solemn duty of senators to provide oversight of the Executive and Judicial branches. This system of checks and balances was built into the Constitution to prevent any one branch from having all the power of government.
It’s probably not possible to adequately relay to you my deep disappointment in your actions and behavior during the Donald Trump impeachment. You made a travesty of the entire process, and you both as well have abdicated your responsibility as U.S. senators.
You began by taking a sacred oath to hear the evidence impartially, yet you dishonored that oath because you had already made up your minds to vote for acquittal regardless of the evidence presented.
Perhaps you will be able to explain that someday to your maker when you meet him. Perhaps he will forgive you; I’m not sure I can.
I pray daily that my fellow Texans and I will find honorable people to represent us, just as I pray daily that God will bless the United States of America and protect her from those who would invite foreign interference in the integrity of our elections.
Maybe someday I will once again be proud to tell people that I was born and raised in Texas and have lived here for most of my life.
