Hector Ibarra Hernandez

A Dallas County man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of family violence for allegedly attacking a woman with a baseball bat.

Hector Ibarra Hernandez was arraigned Monday during a hearing in the 196th District Court. Judge Andrew Bench accepted the plea and scheduled an interim hearing for April 29.

Hernandez, 62, of Garland, was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury last month on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. Hernandez was alleged in the indictment to have attacked a female victim with a baseball bat on Dec. 17, 2014. Hernandez remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bond on the charge.

Aggravated assault is a second degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
