Women In Need, WIN, which operates domestic violence shelter for Hunt and Rockwall counties is also offering vigils in recognition of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and in support of those who have experienced the specter of violence, as well as luncheons to thank the first responders and others in both counties who deal with the issues every day.

WIN is hosting the Rockwall County Domestic Violence Vigil on the steps of the Rockwall County Courthouse, 1111 West Yellow Jacket Lane in Rockwall at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11.

The vigil is to remember victims and celebrate survivors and will feature guest speakers and survivor testimony. The vigil will be followed by a luncheon at Liberty Hall for survivors, volunteers and first responders.

A Domestic Violence Awareness Month vigil is scheduled at 9 a.m. Oct. 18 at the Hunt County Courthouse, which will be followed by the luncheon at 11 a.m. t the Emerald Ballroom at Landon Winery.

The luncheons are free for all those attending, but an RSVP is requested to allow for an accurate head count.

The Hunt County Commissioners Court it scheduled to proclaim October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month during Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 10 a.m. in the Auxiliary Courtroom at 2700 Johnson Street in Greenville.
