Maria Vaughn of Vaughn Dance explores the space of her storage unit in preparation for “Storage Unit Stories,” earlier this year.

On Saturday, Greenville’s Uptown Forum will be the stage for a unique dance performance, in which dancers will use the building’s spiraling layout of stairways and an “open three-floor” design in their production, “Whimsically Eloquent.”

Presented by locally-based professional dance company Vaughn Dance, the production will not be the first by owner and operator Maria Vaughn to be choreographed and performed in and unusual venue.

While still a student at the University of Southern Mississippi, she created a production that was performed at the Hattiesburg Zoo.

For Saturday's performance, cellist and Greenville Suzuki Strings teacher Muriel Kerr will provide musical accompaniment for the dancers.

The production is planned as a fundraiser for Women in Need, a nonprofit that focuses on re-empowering victims of domestic violence and providing them with safe shelter, clothing, food, legal advocacy and counseling.

As a professional dance troupe, Vaughn Dance is working to hire out their services for a variety of live, video and photographic projects.

Tickets cost $30, and can be purchased online at

The event will begin with hors d’oeuvres and wine being served at 4:30 p.m. and the performance is planned to end by 6 p.m. Saturday at the Uptown Forum at 2610 Lee St. in downtown Greenville.
