Trial is set to begin today for a suspect charged with murder in connection with the homicide of a Hopkins County man near Campbell more than three years ago.
Allen Thomas Sample has entered a plea of not guilty to one count of murder in the death of Tommey Joe Tubb of Dike.
Jury selection in Sample’s case was conducted Monday in the 196th District Court.
Opening arguments and the start of testimony are scheduled in the court this morning.
Sample, 52, of Campbell, was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury in July 2016 in connection with Tubb’s death.
Tubb was found deceased behind a residence in the 5400 block of Interstate 30 East near Campbell at around 9 p.m. May 20, 2016 after Tubb’s roommate reportedly contacted the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office. Tubb had been shot in the head.
Sample was arrested in Rockwall six days later on the murder charge, which carries a maximum punishment upon conviction of from five to 99 years to life in prison.
