An inmate from the Hunt County Jail was listed in critical condition Friday evening, after reportedly attempting to take his own life earlier in the day.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said jailers located the inmate, housed in an administrative segregation cell, with self-inflicted wounds. The jailers notified medical staff, who responded and began first aid.

The inmate was transported by American Medical Response to the Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville and then transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, where he was listed in critical condition.

“At our last report, he was still in the intensive care unit at Parkland,” Meeks said.

The name of the inmate was not immediately released, as his next of kin had not been notified.

Meeks said he has requested the Texas Rangers to investigate the incident.
