Susan Lanning, new president and CEO of the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum, will be welcomed at a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the museum.

The event is open to the public.

Hosts will be the museum’s board of directors, along with honorary co-hosts Judge John Horn and Greenville Mayor Tom Oliver.

Lanning, who assumed her responsibilities June 25, comes to Greenville from Beaumont where she was executive director of the Fire Museum of Texas since 2000. A native of Missouri, she has a master’s degree in museum studies from Baylor University. Prior to her work at the Beaumont museum which reaches approximately 20,000 people each year, she took the lead in implementing several programs during a year-long internship at the Hubbard Museum of the American West in Ruidoso, N.M.

She has been involved in such civic and professional activities as the presidency of Campfire USA in Beaumont, Leadership Beaumont and program committee and past presenter for the Texas Association of Museums.

Lanning was selected from a field of almost 50 applicants in a nationwide search, according to Jack Gray, museum board chairman.
