Members of the Greenville Police Department and City of Greenville employees were saddened yesterday after the death of Liberty, the police department bloodhound. The circumstances surrounding the dog’s death are still being investigated. Liberty's handler left the station around 2 p.m. Later in the afternoon he realized that he may not have put Liberty back in her kennel and called the police department. The shift Lieutenant found Liberty in the police vehicle and the dog had died. Liberty’s handler is devastated at the loss of his K-9 partner. The officer has had Liberty since she was a puppy and has been her handler for more than seven years. Sincere condolences go out to the officer, his family, and the police department and City employees who are saddened by this tragic event.
