Organizers of a campaign to spruce up the Aunt Char’s Kid Zone are asking volunteers to assist with an effort this weekend.

Ian Stewart of Greenville has chosen the resealing of the facility’s playground equipment and fence as his Eagle Scout project. Individuals who are interested in helping Stewart and his fellow scouts are invited to participate, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Kid Zone, which is located inside the Greenville SportsPark.

Hand sprayers, brushes and safety equipment will be available for use Saturday and members of the Hunt County Playground Association (HPCA) are also expected to take part in the work.

In October of 2002, dozens of local residents joined with the City of Greenville Parks and Recreation Department to build the playground. The facility was named Aunt Char’s Kid Zone after the anonymous donor who contributed $80,000 toward the costs of construction.

The HPCA was formed out of the members of the original committee which drove the building effort and has used funds left over from the project to pay for general maintenance and repairs to the playground in the interim.

Those needing more information about the project can contact Stewart at 903-456-4081.
