One person was taken into custody following a reported high-speed pursuit along Interstate 30 Thursday morning which ended at the Walmart Supercenter in Royse City.
The Royse City Police Department reported the incident began at around 10:15 a.m. when a Cumby police officer was physically assaulted and the suspect fled in a vehicle westbound along the interstate.
The suspect wrecked his vehicle in the area of I-30 and Erby Campbell Boulevard then fled on foot to the Walmart in Royse City. Information obtained from the Cumby officer indicated the suspect was armed with a pistol.
Sgt. Kyle Bradford with the Texas Department of Safety said the chase along the westbound highway reportedly reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour before ending at the store.
Royse City police and Rockwall County Sheriff Office deputies, along with DPS troopers set up a perimeter.
Walmart employees and citizens were evacuated from the store. A search of the facility along with the assistance of a Police K-9 found the suspect hiding inside.
The suspect was taken into custody and no citizens or law enforcement were injured.
Anita Scott Elementary School in Royse City was also temporarily on lockdown during the incident.
The name of the suspect was not immediately released and no additional information had been made available as of press time.
