There looks to be something for everyone at an upcoming fundraiser for the local Toys for Tots organization next weekend.
The local organization has been ramping up efforts in recent months after Teri Roundtree became the first coordinator for Hunt County Toys for Tots in more than a decade. Roundtree says a recent raffle for an outdoor fire pit brought in more than $3,000, while more than $2,000 was raised at a recent event at the American Legion post in Greenville.
Toys for Tots accepts monetary and toy donations throughout the year to distribute toys to local children and families in need around Christmastime. The organization was founded in 1947 and has been associated with the U.S. Marine Corps since its inception.
The next upcoming fundraiser for Hunt County Toys for Tots is scheduled for June 16 at the Sweetwater Grill, located west of Quinlan in the Union Valley area.
A lot is on tap for the event. The Second Hand band will provide live music for the event, and an auction featuring more than 50 donated items and experiences will be held. There will be a dunk tank where participants can try their hand at dunking a U.S. Marine. Also, Rollin’ Static Tattoo, based out of Quinlan, will be providing tattoo services on-site, with a portion of proceeds going to Toys for Tots. There is also a raffle for a tattoo worth up to $400 from Rollin’ Static; Each donation of a $10 or more toy is an entry into the raffle, with tickets also being sold for $10 each.
Another raffle for a new Remington 300 Win-Mag rifle will also take place. Tickets are $10 each or 6 for $50.
Sweetwater Grill will also donate a portion of its proceeds from the day to Toys for Tots. Roundtree says that it will be a kid-friendly atmosphere that the whole family can enjoy.
“The support we have gotten from the community has been great this year,” Roundtree said. “I cannot thank the people that have helped us enough.”
Sweetwater Grill is located at 4884 State Highway 276 in Union Valley. The fundraiser will be held from 2 p.m. until close.
