A Caddo Mills man has been indicted on a charge of aggravated assault, for allegedly shooting another man last summer.

The charge returned by the Hunt County grand jury was one of two aggravated assault with a deadly weapon indictments filed against Dane Ray Clark Friday in connection with separate incidents. Clark was also indicted for allegedly being in possession of the firearm used in the shooting illegally.

The grand jury indicted three individuals Friday on aggravated assault charges. The panel also indicted a Greenville woman, already facing a trial on an attempted capital murder charge, for the alleged possession of methamphetamine. And a Wood County man was indicted on a charge of burglary, for allegedly choosing the wrong building to break into last month.

The grand jury handed up 51 indictments Friday, with three of the charges issued sealed, pending the arrest and arraignment of the person or persons named in the indictments. Six “no-bills” were also returned.

— Clark, 42, Caddo Mills, received two indictments for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. One of the charges was related to an incident which occurred early on the morning of July 29, 2010 during which one person was shot. A complaint filed by the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office indicated deputies were dispatched to a location near the intersection of Private Road 2526 and County Road 2532, where a 37-year-old man had been shot with a handgun after he and Clark argued outside of a residence. Witnesses allegedly told officers that Clark approached the vehicle the victim was driving, ordered the individual to get out and then shot him in the upper left chest. When asked about the incident, Clark allegedly said the victim had shot himself. The victim later identified Clark as the assailant from a photo lineup as he recovered at Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

Clark was indicted on one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, for being in possession of the firearm used in the shooting. The indictment alleged Clark was convicted of delivery of a controlled substance in 2005.

Clark was also indicted Friday on a second count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, for threatening a female victim with a firearm on June 30, 2010.

— Billy Michael Newsom, 54, Quinlan, was indicted on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon/family violence. Newsom was alleged in the indictment to have used a firearm to threaten a female victim on Nov. 26, 2010.

— Timothy Carl Wood, 36, Greenville, was indicted on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Wood was alleged in the indictment to have hit a man in the head with a baseball bat on April 26, 2010.

— Lola Danielle Cherry, 19, of Greenville, was indicted on one count of possession of a controlled substance. Cherry was alleged in the indictment to have been in possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine om Sept. 21, 2010. Cherry is currently facing an April 4 trial date on a charge of attempted capital murder. Police officers were reported to have responded to a call of a newborn choking and not breathing in the 2600 block of Jones Street on the night of Oct. 31, 2009. The child was transported to the hospital and an investigation of the incident led to an arrest warrant being issued on December 29, 2010 for Cherry. Cherry was alleged to have placed a baby wipe inside the child’s throat.

— Justin Michael Twardzik, 28, Yantis, was indicted on one count of burglary of a building. Twardzik was one of two people who were alleged in the indictment to have broken into a building owned by the United States Marshal’s Service on Jan. 19. Twardzik and the other man were alleged to have stolen electrical wiring from the structure and were arrested the same day. The status of any indictment against the second individual was not available as of Friday afternoon.
