Responding to fire

Units from the Greenville Fire-Rescue Department responded to a Monday afternoon fire at a local apartment complex.

Multiple units of a local apartment complex were damaged during a Monday afternoon fire.

Smoke from the blaze at the Lake Breeze Apartments, 6011 Interstate 30, could be seen for miles. Investigators with the Greenville Fire-Rescue Department were on scene until the evening checking on a cause for the fire, although Greenville Fire Chief Jeremy Powell said arson was not suspected.

“I have no information that would lead me to believe that,” Powell said.

The fire was first reported at around 12:40 p.m. Monday in Building 4 of the complex. Multiple fire and police units were on the scene, but no one was reported injured.

“We had heavy damage to one apartment and smoke damage, I think, to about four others,” Powell said, noting additional information may be released once the initial investigation of the fire scene is complete.
