The Greenville City Council intends today to consider whether to grant a conditional use permit which would allow a used car business to open along Wesley Street.

A public hearing and vote on the issue are scheduled during tonight’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is set for 5 p.m.

Oggie Stephens, representing Diamond Crest Auto Sales, is seeking the permit to allow a used auto sales facility to open at 3913 Wesley Street, Suite A.

The property, located at the northeast corner of Wesley and Templeton streets, is currently zoned General Retail and was formally occupied by Longbranch Lawn and Landscaping. The southernmost portion of the structure is currently occupied by Abby Carpets.

Stephens intends to lease the vacant portion of the property, approximately 1,200 square feet, for office space.

Last week the Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously to recommend conditional approval of the request, provided Stephens improves the facility’s parking area to city standards, and installs decorative wrought iron fencing along the side of the property that faces Wesley Street prior to the issuance of a certificate of occupancy.

The Council is scheduled to take a final vote on the issue following the public hearing this evening.
