An area women’s group plans to show its appreciation to American veterans next week, during a program which will feature a distinguished Army officer.

ALBA — An area women’s group plans to show its appreciation to American veterans next week, during a program which will feature a distinguished Army officer.

Lake Country Neighbors is hosting the 10th Annual Veterans Thank You event on July 9 at Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba.

The Hunt County Honor Guard from Greenville will present the colors for the program which will feature Lt. Colonel Allen B. West as guest speaker.

During a 22-year career in the United States Army, West served in multiple combat zones and received honors including a Bronze Star, three Meritorious Service Medals and three Army Commendation Medals, one with Valor device, and a Valorous Unit Award.

In 1993 West was named the U.S. Army ROTC Instructor Of The Year.

The program will also include a display of military memorabilia from World War II to present day and entertainment by “The Local Mission Band.”
