With some school districts in East Texas announcing they will be closing schools early today, due to the threat of severe weather this afternoon, officials with the Greenville ISD have indicated an announcement is expected by noon today as to whether the local schools's schedules will also be impacted. The announcement will be made on the district's web site at www.greenvilleisd.com and also on the Herald-Banner web site as soon as we receive the information.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect, starting at noon today, for Hunt County and the surrounding area. The National Weather Service is indicating thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon and evening and move into East Texas tonight. Some of the storms will be severe with large hail, damaging winds, and perhaps a few tornadoes. Storms should develop between 2-4 pm and continue into the late evening hours. There will also be a threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding from the Metroplex northeast into the Paris/Bonham areas through tonight.
