LAVON — Four Community High School students were killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle accident.
The Lavon Police Department reported officers responded at approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday to the scene of the crash at the intersection of North State Highway 78 and Business 78/Main Street in Lavon.
Four fatalities were reported,k and three other people were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The Community Independent School District issued a statement Tuesday night, reporting the district was devastated to learn of the accident.
“We are grateful to the first responders on the scene,” the district stated. “As they continue to investigate CISD will refrain from making any additional comment out of respect for the families. Our thoughts and prayers are with these families and with the entire Brave Nation as we grieve together. Counselors will be available to help support students and staff first thing in the morning.”
Units from the Lavon, Nevada and Wylie fire departments, Wylie EMS, Collin County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety also responded to the accident, as well as clergy from First Assemnbly Lavon, First Baptist Lavon and First Baptist Wylie.
