Mizelle Thompson

Mizelle Genobia Thompson, after a short illness, went to be with our Lord. She was born Dec. 2, 1924 in Ocilla, Ga. to Tommy and Letchie Mae Mitchell Harrell. She married her beloved John Harold Thompson in Moultrie, Ga. in 1945. They made their home in Quinlan where they raised three children. In 1995, they were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

She began working for the Quinlan ISD cafeteria when her children began school, and later retired after 23 years of services. During her lifetime she was very active at First Baptist Church of Quinlan, where she was a member for over 57 years. She served in the Church’s nursery for many years, where one of her son’s was the first baby in the nursery.

She was also a member and very active in WMU at First Baptist for many years. She joined the Order of Eastern Star, Feb. 1, 1963 and was made an endowed member in 2002. All of her Eastern Star sisters were her beloved friends and confidants.

Mizelle loved and cared for her family throughout her lifetime. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She also loved to bake pies for everyone to enjoy. She was loved by everyone she met and we will miss her greatly.

Mizelle is survived by her sons, Steve Thompson and wife Diane of Greenville; Bill Thompson and wife Blanca of Greenville; daughter, Paula Wallace of Quinlan; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thompson.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lynch Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, July 13, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Lynch Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan.
