Florence Jean Fisher of Greenville, charged with capital murder involving the death of her 4-year-old stepson, was instead found guilty Wednesday of a misdemeanor charge of deadly conduct.

A jury in the 354th District Court deliberated about three and one-half hours before reaching the decision. The verdict means that instead of an automatic life prison sentence, Fisher is facing a maximum of one-year in the Hunt County Jail in connection with the death of Jordan Mach.

The jury also found Fisher guilty of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury in connection with injuries suffered by one of Mach’s brothers and could face a maximum sentence of life in prison on the charge. The panel also found Fisher guilty of injury to a child by omission in connection with injuries Mach suffered which were not directly connected to his death and is facing a maximum of 10 years in prison on the third-degree felony charge.

The jury is scheduled to return at 10 a.m. today for a sentencing hearing in the case.
