Wintry weather weekend ahead?

GREENVILLE — Hunt County may be in line for a wintry weather weekend, although as of Thursday evening there was also a good chance that the county may just see a lot of cold rain between now and Monday.

The National Weather Service forecast was calling for at least the possibility of some sleet in the region, sometime between Sunday and Monday morning.

What was certain was that the temperatures were expected to plunge throughout the day today, with frigid conditions all weekend long.

An arctic front was expected to blow into North Texas early this morning, accompanied by showers and maybe a few powerful thunderstorms, with a low around 37. Winds were expected to gust out of the north as high as 30 mph.

The rain and gusting winds were likely to continue today and into tonight, with the high lucky to reach 40 and the low overnight dipping to around 37.

A mix of rain and sleet was predicted to be in the area throughout Sunday and into Sunday night, but it was unknown whether any accumulation of ice was possible before the precipitation changes back to rain Monday morning.
