Greenville going cruising this weekend

GREENVILLE — Greenville is expected to receive a blast from the past, starting tonight, during the Fourth Annual “Wesley Street Cruise Night”, a three-day event celebrating cars, motorcycles, rock and roll, Elvis and cruising Wesley and Lee Streets.

Hundreds of people are expected to be on hand as activities begin this evening with a 6 p.m. visit to the former Greenville High School, now Greenville Middle School, at 3611 Texas Street for a tour and photos. The namesake cruise begins at 7 p.m.

The focus shifts to Market Square, 2210 Lee Street, on Saturday. A swap meet starts at 9 a.m., with registration for the car and bike show, with more than 20 classes featured, starting at 12:30 p.m.

The car and bike show itself runs from 2 until 4 p.m., followed by live music from Tribute to CCR and Then and Again until 7 p.m., when another cruise parade down Lee and Wesley Streets is set to begin, ending with a “Sonic Boom”, as the cruisers invade the Sonic Drive-In.

A “Hot Rod Church” service/“Cruisin’ On The Heavenly Highway” rally, featuring Harvey McFadden as Elvis, is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Sunday in the pavillion at Graham Park, followed by a picnic to wrap up the activities.

Information about all of the events included under the Fourth Annual Wesley Street Cruise Night is available on the group’s web site at wesleystreetcruisers.wix.com/wesleystreetcruisers.
