Cut phone lines plunge some Greenville businesses into 'Stone Age'

GREENVILLE — Some businesses in west Greenvillle in and near the Industrial Park do not have internet or phone service, according to reports from businesses in the area.

According to Brantley Burns of Texas Farm Bureau, AT&T's fiber optic lines have been disabled from the Industrial Park to the railroad tracks, and many local businesses have been experiencing major internet and phone issues since yesterday.

"The lines have been smashed, and AT&T has had to get out there, dig up their cables and start replacing them," Burns said. "What I'm hearing from my corporate office is that the earliest we'll have service back is Friday."

According to Burns, the lack of communications has led to some frustration from current clients and an inability to contact new ones.

"This puts us back in the Stone Age," he said.

Yesterday, Commerce Independent School District also lost phone service due to a cut fiber optics cable, but it is unknown at this time whether the two outages are related.
