City, L-3 to continue fire mutual aid

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Fire-Rescue Department intends to continue working alongside the fire department at L-3 Communications Integrated Systems in dealing with any emergencies which may arise at Majors Field, the City of Greenville Municipal Airport, or elsewhere in the city.

The Greenville City Council is scheduled Tuesday to approve a renewal of the mutual aid agreement between the fire department and L-3. The item is included under Tuesday’s regular session agenda, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also set for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

In a memo to the council, Greenville Fire Chief Doug Caison explained his department’s current agreement with the L-3 Fire Department was approved by the council in 2008 and expires at the end of this year.

“A renewed mutual aid agreement is needed to continue joint protection from disasters and provide a force multiplier for both the City of Greenville and L-3 Communications Integrated Systems,” Caison said, adding the new agreement is virtually unchanged from the current arrangement. “Greenville Fire-Rescue will respond and provide all hazards aid to the L-3 Fire Department should they request it; providing Greenville Fire-Rescue has the personnel and equipment available to do so without compromising the safety of the City of Greenville. The L-3 Fire Department will assist Greenville Fire- Rescue should we request it; providing the L-3 Fire Department has the personnel and equipment available to do so without compromising the safety of L-3 Communications Integrated Systems.”
