Marking a tragic anniversary

GREENVILLE — A ceremony is scheduled in Greenville this afternoon to remember Alicia Moore, a local teenager murdered one year ago.

Moore, 16, was last seen getting off of a school bus at the intersection of Walnut and Bourland Streets in Greenville on Nov. 2, 2012. Her body was found four days later in Van Zandt County.

The memorial ceremony, which will include a prayer and a balloon release, is set at the intersection for 3:20 p.m. today.

Michael Moore, the uncle of Alicia Moore, was arrested May 6 and has been charged with capital murder. He remains in custody at the Van Zandt County jail and has pleaded not guilty.

Investigators took DNA samples from Moore’s family members, which along with additional evidence reportedly implicated Michael Moore in the murder.
