Herald-Banner food drive begins Monday

GREENVILLE — The Herald-Banner Cares and Shares Food Drive, benefiting Hunt County Shared Ministries (FISH), is scheduled to begin Monday and continue through October 11.

This year, Sweet Frog in Greenville will be one of the designated drop off locations for the event.

The Herald-Banner has set a goal of collecting 150,000 pounds of food for needy families in our area. Groups, businesses and organizations may bring in food or monetary donations to the Herald-Banner offices, 2305 King Street, to FISH at 2805 King Street or to Sweet Frog at 5601 Wesley Street.

All cash donations will be computed at a rate of seven pounds per $1. All food donations will be weighed.

Since 2005, the Cares and Shares Food Drive has collected more than 392,000 pounds of food. The Authentic Life Church, formerly Fairview Church, has won the drive each year.

Last year the church donated 29,454 pounds of food toward an overall collection of 139,309 pounds.

The group/organization who brings in the most pounds of food will win $100 and a feature story in the Herald-Banner. Second through sixth place groups each earn a 1/8 page advertisement in the paper.

All individuals who make a donation can put their name into a drawing to win a six-month subscription to the Herald-Banner. There will be two winners.

Stories and photos updating the drive will be included in the Herald-Banner and on the web site at heraldbanner.com.
