"It's just go-go-go'

GREENVILLE — Cause for Paws provided residential pets with some important vaccinations on Saturday with the non-profit organization’s monthly vaccination clinic.

Locals and their dogs crowded the Cause for Paws office located at 4400 Moulton during the event The clinic offered a variety of vaccines and services, including shots for Rabies, Distemper, and Bordetella.

As fast as the building filled up, the nurses and veterinarians worked quickly to ensure a short waiting time for visitors.

“It’s just go-go-go,” Heath Farquhar, a nurse for Cause for Paws, said of the event.

Shots were also given for cats, for Feline Distemper and Feline Leukemia.

Attendees also had the oppurtunity to have their pet tested for heartworms, a disease which Farquhar said could be fatal if not treated quickly.

“We really emphasize heartworm disease,” she said. “Heartworms can come from mosquito bites, and once their in there it can prove very deadly.”

Farquhar added that dogs may receive a booster shot at 6 six weeks old, and then at 12 weeks are eligible for a Rabies vaccination.

“If an allergic reaction from the vaccine occurs, we can reverse that,” Farquhar said. “But that rarely ever happens.”

Cause for Paws also offered a nail trim and a skin scrape, in addition to the vaccinations and heartworm test. Vaccination costs ranged from $10 to $12.

Cause for Paws holds vaccination clinics on the first Saturday of every month.
