City searching for new public works director

GREENVILLE — Massoud Ebrahim’s days of doing double duty for the City of Greenville may be numbered.

The city’s current budget was balanced through multiple cuts in personnel and programs, and left Ebrahim serving as both the Greenville City Manager and his former position as director of public works.

But Ebrahim believes the latter job will soon be filled.

“Actually I am going to advertise for that position starting April 1,” Ebrahim said.

Ebrahim was appointed by the city council in May 2013 as the interim city manager for the City of Greenville, in the wake of the council terminating former city manager Steven Alexander’s contract. Ebrahim was awarded the permanent post in August of last year, while also continuing to perform the duties as director of public works due to budget considerations.

In order to save half of the expected salary of a public works director, Ebrahim had proposed hiring a full time director early this year.

Ebrahim said Friday that he is ready to begin looking.

“I am going to start the process,” Ebrahim said.

The opening will be advertised in the pages of the Herald-Banner and on the City of Greenville web site at http://www.ci.greenville.tx.us.

Ebrahim said the preferred qualifications for the individual winning the position would cover several pages.

“We are looking for a professional engineer with experience, like me basically,” Ebrahim said.

Ebrahim joined the City of Greenville as the Director of Public Works in December 1990. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University, as well as a Registered Professional Engineering license in Texas and a Class A General Engineering Contracting License in California.

Before coming to Greenville, Ebrahim was the City Engineer for the City of Temple. He also worked in the private sector for 12 years in Texas as a consultant Civil Engineer and Municipal Engineer.
