Greenville ISD to receive grant for iPads

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Independent School District board of trustees is considering using grant funding to buy 100 iPads for use by students at campuses across the district.

The vote to approve the purchase through the Texas Literacy Initiative grant program is scheduled during Tuesday’s regular session, starting at 6 p.m. in the Wesley Martin Administration Building, 4004 Moulton Street.

The Greenville ISD is one of 30 districts across Texas included under the Texas Literacy Initiative grant program, which has a goal of improving school readiness and success in the area of language and literacy for disadvantaged students in targeted school districts.

Under the grant New Horizons, L.P. Waters, Bowie Elementary, Carver Elementary, Crockett Elementary, Lamar Elementary and Travis Elementary would each receive 10 iPads, while 15 iPads would be provided to both Greenville Middle School and the Greenville Sixth Grade Center.

A total of $42,000 in grant funding would be used to purchase the devices.
