Local community service awards to be presented Saturday

GREENVILLE — Some of North Texas’ heroes are to be recognized this weekend, for their efforts at law enforcement, firefighting, life-saving, citizenship and properly displaying the United States flag.

The Ambassador Fletcher Warren Chapter of the Texas Society Sons of the American Revolution has scheduled its annual Community Service Awards for 10 a.m. Saturday in the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library in Greenville.

The awards will include Law Enforcement, presented to Greenville Police Department Sgt. William (Buddy) Oxford by Police Chief Daniel Busken; the Emergency Medical Service Award, which will be presented to Hunt County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Paramedic David Olson by EMS Operations Supervisor Thomas Auanger; the Fire Safety Award, presented to Commerce Firefighter/EMT Chris Bassham by Commerce Fire Chief Jack Berni ; the Heroism Award, presented to Sulphur Springs Police Department Officer Eddie Moon by Police Chief Jim Bayuk; the Bronze Good Citizenship Award, presented to John Armstrong — the secretary of both the Hunt County Historical Commission and the Historical Committee at Wesley United Methodist Church by Hunt County Genealogist Carol Taylor; and the Flag Certificate for Exemplary Patriotism, presented to the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library for properly displaying the flag of the United States of America.

The public is invited to attend the event. Refreshments will be served.
