Juvenile suspect admits Facebook threat hoax, placed in juvenile detention

GREENVILLE — Update issued by the Greenville Police Department concerning this morning's threat situation:

A juvenile suspect has admitted to Greenville Police that a threat made on Facebook, resulting in a Greenville ISD district-wide lockdown, was intended as a hoax.

On May 9, 2013, the Greenville Police Department was advised about a threat made through Facebook and began an investigation and location of the suspect.

The grandfather of the suspect brought the juvenile to the Greenville Police Department, where the juvenile was interviewed and admitted to making the post as a joke.

According to Greenville Police Chief Dan Busken, “The Greenville Police Department takes any threat seriously and begins immediate action to protect the community.  Fortunately, this incident was resolved quickly, with the suspect coming forward and admitting to making the threat.”

Busken added, “The juvenile has been placed in Juvenile Detention, and we are continuing with the investigation and reviewing any charges that may filed in connection with this case.”
