The Hunt County Office of Homeland Security is hoping owners of old tires will take advantage this weekend of a free opportunity.
The Hunt County Tire Round Up is scheduled between 8 a.m. and noon Saturday at the old Texas Department of Transportation headquarters on U.S. Highway 69 South in Greenville.
The tires will be sent to a shredder for recycling.
Thousands of old tires have been collected during the events, which help reduce the amount of trash in area ditches and waterways, as well as the hazards area firefighters might face, should a discarded tire ignite in a field or vacant lot.
Hunt County residents can drop off 25 tires per household and proof of residency is required. No tires on wheels or rims and no tires so large that they cannot be easily loaded into transport trailers will be accepted.
The event is sponsored by the Hunt County Office of Homeland Security, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and Bluebonnet Resource Conservation and Development.
