Jury selection today in Micah Brown capital murder case

GREENVILLE — Jury selection is scheduled today in the trial of a Greenville man, charged with capital murder in connection with the 2011 shooting death of his ex-wife.

A general voir dire hearing is set this morning in the case of Micah Crofford Brown and 354th District Court Judge Richard A. Beacom has called for 400 potential jurors to be summoned to appear.

The questioning of individual jurors is scheduled to begin on April 1.

Prosecutors have announced they intend to seek death by lethal injection as a punishment for Brown, should he be convicted of capital murder involving the death of Stella Michelle “Doc” Ray, a Caddo Mills school teacher. Brown has pleaded not guilty.

Brown, 33, remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $1.5 million bond. Authorities say Brown has confessed to shooting Ray, 36, of Greenville on the night of July 20, 2011 as the two argued over a custody dispute.

The capital murder indictment alleges Brown committed the murder while also committing family violence and “in the course of committing or attempting to commit terroristic threat.”
