Sentencing set this week in aggravated assault case

GREENVILLE — A punishment hearing is scheduled this week for a local man, convicted of multiple counts of aggravated assault for ramming his automobile into a vehicle filled with people.

Christopher Lamont Anderson, 31, of Greenville, received four indictments from the Hunt County grand jury in June 2013 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one indictment for evading arrest with a motor vehicle.

Anderson was found guilty of all five charges May 22, following a two-day trial before 196th District Court Judge Steve Tittle.

Tittle ordered a presentence investigation and scheduled a punishment hearing, which is set to start at 3 p.m. Monday.

The indictments alleged Anderson used a vehicle to ram into another vehicle which had four people inside, then attempted to flee in the vehicle from a law enforcement officer on May 11, 2013. The indictments indicated Anderson had a previous felony conviction, for burglary of a habitation, in 2010.

Anderson remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail.

Aggravated assault is a second degree felony, punishable by a maximum sentence upon conviction of from two to 20 years in prison and an optional fine of up to $10,000.
