Members of an organization which backs American veterans are showing their support this Memorial Day weekend by continuing a long walk across the United States.
The Carry the Load relay is scheduled to pass through and make four stops in Hunt County today, on its way to its conclusion in Dallas on Memorial Day.
Carry the Load is a non-profit, founded by former Navy Seals to raise funds and awareness for veterans and their surviving families.
The 27 day, 2,000 mile national relay began in West Point, N.Y. on April 30 and is expected to reach Mount Pleasant/Mount Vernon this evening.
The relay will proceed west along Interstate 30 today, passing through Sulphur Springs before reaching Greenville during the afternoon.
Stops are planned at the intersection of Interstate 30 and County Road 3201 at noon, at Interstate 30 and FM 1737 at 2 p.m., at Interstate 30/Lee Street/6th Street at 4 p.m. and in front of the Cracker Barrel, 3401 Interstate 30 Frontage Road in Greenville, at 6 p.m. today.
Organizers said Carry The Load was designed to rejuvenate the true meaning and purpose of the Memorial Day holiday as a way to honor those who served and died in service to the United States.
To date, Carry The Load has raised more than $500,000 for, and is being used to raise awareness of, the veteran’s organizations it supports.
