Two arrested following high-speed chase

GREENVILLE — One person was injured and two people, including one of Hunt County’s most wanted suspects, have been taken into custody in connection with an early Tuesday morning high speed chase and crash.

Nathan Doyle Dotson, 25 and Jerri Lynn Wyrick Kempf, 29 both of Quinlan were arrested as a result of the pursuit, according to Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks.

“Jerri Kempf was on our 10 Most Wanted List for burglary of a habitation,” Meeks said Wednesday. “I am very pleased that we have these two criminals off the streets and in custody where they belong.”

Meeks said a deputy attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle in the Shady Woods addition in far south Hunt County around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

“The deputy attempted a traffic stop with his red lights and siren on his patrol vehicle,” Meeks said.

When the driver of the vehicle refused to stop , the chase began southbound on FM 751 with speed reportedly exceeding 100 miles per hour before the driver made a sharp left turn onto County Road 3607, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the fence outside of a residence.

“There were three occupants in the vehicle,” Meeks said.

Dotson and Kempf fled the scene on foot, while an unidentified passenger was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and was transported to the Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville with undetermined injuries.

“The deputy gave chase to the fleeing suspects but was unable to detain them,” Meeks said.

However, Dotson had left his wallet and identification inside the vehicle and the deputy had recognized Kempf from the most wanted list. Warrants were issued for the arrest of both suspects, who were taken into custody Wednesday in Henderson County.

“I want to commend Deputy Jay Swallows for attempting this traffic stop on this suspicious vehicle,” Meeks said.
