Two more dog fighting arrests reported

GREENVILLE — A probe into a Greenville dog fighting operation is widening, with two more arrests reported Tuesday and additional arrests are expected later this week.

The Greenville Police Department reported Dakalin Edwards, 18, and Kavante Davis, 17, both of Greenville, were taken into custody Tuesday without incident.  Edwards was arraigned on the charge and as of Tuesday morning remained in custody at the Hunt County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bond. Davis was awaiting arraignment on the charge Tuesday evening.

Two other local residents were charged last week with dog fighting.

Warrants were issued July 16 for Caunte Howard, 17, and Adrian Obrian Jackson, 27, on charges of dog fighting in the 3700 block of Polk Street.

Jackson remains in custody at the Hunt County Jail. Howard was already in custody at the jail, indicted earlier this year on an unrelated charge of aggravated robbery.

Howard was one of three people who were indicted in March by the Hunt County grand jury on charges of aggravated robbery. The three were alleged in the indictments to have acted together to assault a male victim by striking him with a stick and/or a glass bottle while in the course of committing a theft on July 31, 2012. All three individuals were reported arrested on Aug. 2, 2012.

Howard has an interim hearing on the indictment scheduled in district court July 31.
